“Game-Art Workshops” – Berlin, 2024 (Art Mediation & Education)

In collaboration with Ulme35, AWO Südost e.V., Haus der Jugend FUCHSBAU, NAVITAS gGmbH, AWO Landesverband e.V.

Spiel-Kunstwerkstatt Project

The Spiel-Kunstwerkstatt project is facilitated by Nagham Hammoush, printmaker and art mediator, and Ammar Hatem, interdisciplinary artist and art mediator. This year-long initiative offers six interactive workshops for migrant children and youth at three Berlin locations:

Judith-Auer Club (AWO Kreisverband Südost e.V.), Haus der Jugend FUCHSBAU, and Ulme 35

Interkulturanstalten.

Over three days, participants explore traditional games from their home countries, recreate them using printmaking, ceramics, and screen printing, and engage in interactive play. The project fosters cultural exchange, breaks down language barriers, and encourages self-expression in a collaborative, inclusive atmosphere. The resulting artworks become wearable symbols of shared stories and cultural

diversity.

This project, carried out in 2024, focuses on reviving and redesigning traditional games, whether board games, card games, or movement-based games. The aim is to combine these games with various artistic techniques such as engraving, printing, and screen printing.

The games will be reproduced on different materials like fabric, clothing, bags, and cardboard, creating a collection of visual artworks. The project emphasizes both tangible and intangible cultural heritage, presenting it in a new artistic form. Through interactive workshops, participants will engage with these games, fostering communication and connection within the group. This process highlights the importance of traditional games as a form of art and culture.
