Exile is a hard job
On June 8th, as part of the Berlin Biennale, a Postering Workshop took place in collaboration with Dekoloniale Memory Culture in the City.
The phrase "Exile Is a Hard Job" comes from a poem written in 1957 by Nâzim Hikmet. Sixty-five years later, wars continue to serve arms dealers, state repression remains
institutionalized, yet poetry still offers moments of hope.
Artist Nil Yalter took this powerful line as the foundation for her work, Exile Is a Hard Job (1983/2022). For the 12th Berlin Biennale, this piece was adapted into a poster installation displayed both in public spaces and within the exhibition.
The installation was realized by Nagham Hammoush, Ruzgar Buski, and Samira Ghoualmia for the mediation program.
